About the Producer

NICOLE MCNEILL is a Producer from Jersey City, New Jersey, specializing in non-linear video editing of historical African American media artifacts for short biographical documentaries.

Nicole began her career as a non-linear video editor at New Jersey Network (NJN) in Trenton, working on Another View, a television series about African American politics and culture.

While studying at New Jersey City University, she produced two short films about her African American family: Father-Figure and A New Graft: Sociology of the Family, using voice-over narration with Super 8 film she found in the basement of her family home on VHS. Her short films showed at museums, theaters, and galleries.

After graduating in 2006, she was approached to edit a story about Lee Hagan, an African American figure in the university’s African American Studies department.

Nicole later freelanced as a content writer, graphic designer, web designer, and producer for other industries. Nicole McNeill went to Hunter College for graduate school, working on a memoir called "Pura" about her healing journey from intergenerational trauma.

Not able to complete the documentary because of emotional burnout, she dropped out of graduate school. After her last freelance position in 2018, she began to travel and explore her foundation work again after a midlife crisis (awakening) and failed business ideas.

Back on her true path as storyteller and steward of African American history after fully healing, she created Iconoclast Media, an independent platform preserving the stories and legacies of historical and contemporary African American icons.
